释义

名词

加了糖的无奶西洋红茶。

DEFINITION

Noun

Black tea without milk, but with sugar added.

由来
  • 源自福建话的 teh-o
  • Teh 即福建话和潮州话中的“茶”,一般指加了鲜奶或炼乳的茶。Teh-o,即“茶乌”,则是指不加奶的茶。
  • 所谓的西洋红茶主要指从斯里兰卡(Sri Lanka)进口的茶叶。红茶的英语名称为“black tea”。“茶乌”的“乌”在福建话和潮州话中是黑的意思。
ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “茶乌” comes from the term teh-o in the Hokkien dialect.
  • Teh is the pronunciation of “茶” (meaning “tea”) in Hokkien and Teochew. In Singapore coffee shops, “teh” refers to tea with fresh or condensed milk added, while “teh-o” refers to tea with no milk added.
  • Tea leaves from Sri Lanka are used to make black tea. The character “乌” in “茶乌” means “black” in Hokkien and Teochew.
